New Heat Policy – 38 degrees or above....play early!
At the most recent committee meeting it was decided to adopt the following heat policy. Its purpose is to protect the health of our members, and to prevent confusion about when a competition will or will not run on days of extreme heat.
If the predicted Melbourne temperature is for 38 degrees or over at 4.00pm on the day prior to a competition day the following will apply:
The competition times will be amended to 7.00am to 8.36am. Tee times will be available on both the front and back nine holes.
NO competition entries will be accepted outside of these times.
The Club Captain or his delegate will call the pro shop and inform them of the modified heat competition times at 4.00pm on the day prior to the competition.
This will allow 136 members to tee off in the competition on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
On Sundays tee times will be limited due to the bookings of social groups. The Sunday competitions average 22 players. Of these about 4 to 6 play in the mornings. The committee believes the other 18 or so players will be able to book a tee time prior to 8.36.
So what is your responsibility as a member in these circumstances? On hearing that the predicted temperature is for 38 degrees or over on the day prior to a competition you MUST call the pro shop and book a tee time prior to 8.36 am. If you already have a time booked between 7.00 am and 8.46 am you do not need to call. On Saturday and Wednesdays there are 136 tee off times so all members who usually play will easily be accommodated.
In researching this policy it was found that it would have affected 3 competition days over the last summer period. We have adopted a fairly simple policy that can be easily implemented. If it’s going to be hot...play early!
Heat Policies have been adopted by the majority of Australian Golf Clubs and also other sporting bodies. The committee has adopted this policy with one thought in mind, YOUR health. As this will be our first summer season in adopting this policy any feedback in writing will be gratefully received.
